Living in Hanover

RM of Hanover is a growing and vibrant municipality located in southeastern Manitoba. It's situated in a rich agricultural area, with its northern boundary about twenty minutes from Manitoba's capital city, Winnipeg. RM of Hanover is approximately 741 square kilometres in size and has a population of 17,261 (2021 census). The municipality is bordered on the east by the City of Steinbach and the west by the Town of Niverville.



Communities

RM of Hanover has five urban centres: Mitchell, Blumenort, Grunthal, New Bothwell, and Kleefeld. Each community in Hanover has unique characteristics and collectively they offer a dynamic menu of services, shopping, housing, employment, and recreation.

Other settlement areas in the municipality include Sarto, Randolph, Pansy, Rosenthal, Tourond, and Friedensfeld. With its strong Mennonite heritage, Hanover is definitely a cultural gem found within Manitoba's eastern municipalities.





Workforce and Industry

Our youthful population is evident in the many young families living in Hanover which offers a desirable work force that attracts companies and allows businesses to prosper. 

Agriculture is the dominant industry in the municipality with many residents either directly employed in agriculture, or in agricultural businesses and support services. Manufacturing, construction, and retail are other strong economic initiatives in the municipality.


Active Transportation

With its extensive and well-developed transportation infrastructure that includes the Provincial Highway system, RM of Hanover is an excellent place to start a business. The surrounding highways are all-weather roads capable of handling car and truck traffic with multiple axles. Also these highways link the RM of Hanover with major exporting routes to the south, east and west. 

The Municipality is connected by many highways including Provincial Trunk Highways 12, 52 and 59, as well as, Provincial Roads 403, 206, 210, 205, 311, and 216.

The Canadian Pacific Railway has a rail line between the RM of Hanover and the RM of Ritchot linking Winnipeg to the United States of America. Harvs Air Service in the Municipality, provides light commuter aircraft traffic and flight training. Three hospitals in the region provide ambulance services and many other essential amenities.
